Breaking: The Department of War has published its sixth UFO files release — 10 new documents, audio, and video files posted today, September 18, 2026, under the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE). The headline items: digitized 1952 footage of the Tremonton, Utah encounter, filmed by Navy Chief Warrant Officer Delbert C. Newhouse, and a previously unreleased 1952 audio recording of Capt. Edward J. Ruppelt — the first director of Project Blue Book — briefing on “flying saucer talk,” a tape Rep. Eric Burlison personally asked to have preserved and reviewed four months ago.
This is the sixth release since the PURSUE program launched May 8, 2026, and the Department of War says more files are coming “on a rolling basis,” with the department and its agency partners already at work on the next tranche.
What’s in Release 06
The 10 new records include audio, video, and documents from the Department of War and local law enforcement. As with earlier tranches, officials stressed the material is labeled “unresolved” only because investigators lacked enough information to make a definitive identification — not because any case has been linked to a confirmed exotic explanation.
The Tremonton, Utah Film Resurfaces
The release’s centerpiece is digitized footage shot on July 2, 1952, by U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer Delbert C. Newhouse near Tremonton, Utah. Newhouse reported observing and filming a group of bright, disc-shaped objects maneuvering in the sky before submitting the footage to the U.S. Air Force. The film became one of the most widely cited cases from the early UFO era, studied for decades by both Air Force investigators and outside researchers. It’s now been formally added to the government’s own declassification archive.

Ruppelt’s “Flying Saucer Talk” — and the Burlison Connection
The second headline file is a reel-to-reel audio recording labeled “AF-ATIC-FILM, 03/52” and cataloged in the release as a presentation by Capt. Edward J. Ruppelt, the Air Force officer who ran Project Blue Book, the government’s original UFO investigation program, in the early 1950s. In the recording, Ruppelt states that roughly 20 percent of the approximately 800 cases the Air Force had reviewed by that point remained unexplained after analysis.
The tape has a direct paper trail to Congress. Back on May 8, 2026 — the same day PURSUE’s first tranche went public — Rep. Eric Burlison (MO-07) sent a letter to MIT Lincoln Laboratory asking it to determine the recording’s status and coordinate with the National Archives on its preservation and review. “The American people deserve transparency and proper preservation of historically significant government records,” Burlison said at the time. Four months later, the recording — both the audio and a transcript — is now public at WAR.GOV/UFO.

Two 2023 Cellphone Videos From Colorado
The only non-historical files in today’s release are two cellphone videos submitted by a Colorado law-enforcement officer in October 2023, joining the Tremonton film and the Ruppelt recording as part of the 10-file drop.

What the Department of War Is Saying
Sean Parnell, Assistant to the Secretary of War for Public Affairs and Chief Pentagon Spokesman, announced the release: “Today, the Department of War is publishing the sixth release of declassified and historical Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) files as part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE). The collection continues to be housed on WAR.GOV/UFO, and the Department will release additional files on a rolling basis.” Parnell added that the department and its agency partners are already working on the next release.

Mixed Reaction So Far
Reaction from the UAP research community has been split. Some longtime observers welcomed the Tremonton and Ruppelt material as genuinely new archival releases, while others pushed back — one enthusiast forum commenter claimed a portion of the batch consists of Defense Intelligence Reference Documents from the old AAWSAP program that have already sat in the DIA’s FOIA reading room for years, a claim we haven’t been able to verify independently. A more consistent complaint: the release still doesn’t include files on the highest-profile mass-sighting cases the public keeps asking about, like the Phoenix Lights or Rendlesham Forest.
What We’re Watching Next
Six tranches have now been released since May 8, 2026, on a roughly monthly cadence (May 8, May 22, June 12, July 10, Aug. 7, and now Sept. 18). The Department of War says the effort spans “tens of millions of records,” many still on paper, and has confirmed work is already underway on the next release.
